The effect of stress and anxiety on your muscles

Current estimates suggest that 3 million people in the UK are suffering from anxiety with more than 1 in 10 people are likely to have a ‘disabling anxiety disorder’ at some stage in their life (reference: anxietyuk.org.uk). When we feel anxious or tense our brain allows our muscles and reflexes to become more reactive as part of the fight or flight response. This makes our muscles and joints stiffer to help protect us.
